Phosphorus deficiency

Phosphorus is second (after calcium) most abundant mineral in our body. Over 80 percent of that is combined with calcium in our bones and teeth; the rest is spread around in every cell of our body.
It used to make our teeth and bones and for many metabolic processes.

Phosphorus plays important role in structure of bones, teeth, soft tissue, and cell membranes, energy production and storage, enzyme reactions, hormones; formation of DNA and RNA; and maintaining acid-base balance.

Symptoms of phosphorus deficiency

Phosphorus is so widespread in every food you eat that it’s almost impossible to be deficient in it.
Though phosphorus deficiency is rare it is affect alcoholics and those with kidney disease, malabsorption syndromes (celiac or Crohn’s disease), or have poor diets.

Many people get a good dose of phosphorus every day from widely used food additives like monocalcium phosphate and sodium aluminium phosphate.

Phosphorus side effects

High doses may cause calcification of soft tissues (kidneys), reduced calcium absorption and bone mass; those with kidney disease are at greatest risk of toxicity.
