Why we need boron

Researchers have shown that we need small amounts of boron to help absorb calcium into our bones and keep it there. It also helps keep the bones strong and metabolizes calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Boron helps keep the brain alert and able to perform simple functions. Several studies found the effect of boron on bone loss in Ethical Nutrients Bone Builder with Boron (220 tablets) postmenopausal women. Their results indicated that boron supplementation reduced the urinary excretion of calcium by 44 percent, reduced urinary magnesium excretion, and markedly increased the serum concentrations of 17 betaestradiol and testosterone. But that is not a problem as most people get 2 to 5 mg a day from their food. Good dietary sources of boron are fruits and vegetables. Most of all boron included in apples, pears, peaches, grapes, dates, and raisins. Nuts, beans and particularly dried fruits are also high in boron. Deficiency of boron is rare.

Boron side effects

The recommended dose is 3 mg/day. While there appear to be no side effects with doses as high as 6 mg/day, dosage should not exceed 10 mg/day. It is best if taken with a multivitamin which includes calcium, magnesium, manganese, and riboflavin.
